HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS: TEAM DEPOT SURPRISES VETERANS WITH HOLIDAY CHEER

December 24, 2014

There’s nothing like the feeling of home and family around the holidays.

Throughout the year, Team Depot volunteers work to improve the homes and lives of veterans across the country. After the tools are packed away and Team Depot project home repairs are complete, our associate volunteers get to see veteran families flourish in their refurbished homes. Many remain close with these families for years to come.

This holiday season, Team Depot volunteers returned to homes of veteran families across the country to play Santa, with festive décor in tow.

The Alakpa Family
George Alakpa

returned from Afghanistan with multiple injuries only to find his home in need of major repairs.

This past September, during Celebration of Service 2014, Team Depot completely transformed George’s home, making it a safe place for his entire family.

The Team Depot volunteers who worked on George’s home repairs returned to surprise George, his wife and his newborn baby girl with a Christmas tree, ornaments, stockings and yard décor to bring some extra holiday cheer to their newly renovated space.

The Anderson Family
With Nick Anderson transitioning out of service after 10 years with the Marines and his wife Nicole at the tail-end of her fight against breast cancer, Team Depot wanted to help make this holiday season special.

Not only did the team of volunteers install a deck and stairs for the couple’s sloped backyard, but they also brought along holiday decorations for their home.

The Ortiz Family
Former U.S. Army Sergeant Christian Ortiz was injured while serving our country in Iraq. After being medically discharged, he met his wife, Jolemy, who helped him recover from multiple surgeries.

During Celebration of Service 2013, more than 75 Team Depot volunteers pitched in to provide a secure and peaceful outdoor living space for the Ortiz family. Since the project, the Ortiz family has welcomed their third son, and this holiday, Team Depot volunteers from across the Denver area came together to surprise the Ortiz family with holiday decorations and gifts.
