National Intern Day: 200 Reasons to Celebrate

July 30, 2020

Today, we celebrate more than 200 interns who have completed our summer program – half of which came from our stores, distribution centers and contact centers.

With the emergence of COVID-19, The Home Depot family knew we’d have to welcome summer interns a little differently this year. In just two months, the company quickly transitioned our usual in-office internships to fully remote opportunities that included weekly professional development, a leadership series, game days, intern TV and more.

“We were thrilled to be able to continue the program this summer, even virtually,” says The Home Depot’s Senior Manager of Talent Natalie McNulty. “Our interns have spent the last two months learning the business, developing their skillsets and building out incredible projects and work that truly impacts the company."

“Even though my experience was all virtual, I am so thankful for the opportunity I’ve had this summer,” says Savannah Griffin, merchandising finance intern. “Everyone did an incredible job facilitating the virtual experience and it absolutely exceeded my expectations.”

“I created a public relations strategy that raised awareness among consumers and Pros of the business in order to help fill the labor gap,” says Michael Villegas, product innovation public relations intern and associate at store 6960 in Fontana, California.

“Our interns should be incredibly proud of what they’ve accomplished,” says Natalie.
